On Oct. 21, 1828, Hermon Chapin (born Oct 9, 1799 at Westmoreland NH. Died Jan 31 1866 at Savannah GA) purchased Daniel Copeland’s (see D. Copeland) interest in copeland & Chapin (w.s.) and became the sole owner of the business called Union Factory. The Union Factory was one of the major manufacturers of planes in New England. H.
